PROGRAM
In a nutshell :
The IFJD-Institut Joinet has been organising since 2014 in Baigorri an annual, international event, open to all and offering the possibility of exchanging experiences and knowledge. This summer programme is dedicated to the defence of human rights and the most vulnerable populations in post-conflict and post-dictatorship contexts. It is part of the IFJD's actions around the world. The Summer school is intended for students and professionals from all over the world to enrich the skills they use or will use in the field, particularly to accompany victims. The courses take place all day at the Oronozia and each year welcome more than 50 participants from all around the world.
The 2023 edition of our summer programme is intended to be a further step in the development of this international and cultural human rights week. We want to continue to make innovative knowledge available to the widest possible audience and to organise spaces for exchange between students, witnesses, actors and researchers on a very important issue.
Childhood and children's rights will be at the heart of our 2023 summer programme. From the stolen children of the Franco dictatorship to the children born in the camps of Daech, from the child soldiers of the Congo to the children of Dombass caught in the fire of bombs and weapons, from the child victims of sexual violence in the religious schools of Canada to the child slaves of the gold mines of Burkina Faso, modern societies make of childhood and its fragility a target, a weapon and a stake in war. This issue challenges us as researchers, lawyers, magistrates, NGO actors and human rights activists because of its universality, its intensity and its terrifying consequences on the world of tomorrow. How can we deal with this violence, prevent it, repress it and - above all - learn all the necessary lessons for the reconstruction of these victims, who are even more innocent than the others? How to ensure that children can be included, participate and benefit from Transitional Justice mechanisms while respecting their expectations and specific needs, but also their vulnerability and youth? How will these children live and what world will they build?
All these questions and contexts will be at the heart of our 2023 programme and will be addressed in its three components :
Summer School
- Children and Transitional Justice (25 June to 2 July)
Film Festival
- Childhoods at War (25 June to 30 June during the evenings). The documentary film festival allows the general public to get to know the issues discussed through screenings, but also through dialogue with our experts, witnesses and participants in the Summer School. These screenings are open to all interested parties free of charge and take place at the Bil Etxea cinema in Baigorri.
Public Forum
- Repairing Childhood (1 July) This is the closing day of the week-long summer programme of round tables, films, cultural activities and social events, which has been held since 2014 in various locations in Saint Etienne de Baigorri. It is an annual, international event, open to all and offering the possibility to exchange experiences and knowledge. The forum is an opportunity to discuss the issues raised during the week and to exchange ideas between all those present.
