The course is an introduction to the European Union (EU) legal system.

The core features and most important principles of the EU are analysed in order to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of this unique model of regionalism. The history of the European integration process, the institutional structure and legislative process of the EU, and the main characteristics of the Single market and the Area of Freedom Security and Justice, will be addressed.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• Become familiar with supranational law
  discover how another legal system works, as well as the dual membership of a national system and a supranational system that is not federal
• better understand the legal, even political, issues of European and international law and the relationships between systems
• work with binding standards that are not of national origin, with legal concepts applicable to 27 Member States and therefore as many different national legal systems.
