Description
The language used during this course (lectures, tutorials and evaluations) is English.
This course aims to acquire the fundamental notions of Immunology.
During the lectures, the students will learn the basics of immunology:
- Lymphoid organs, immune cells and molecules,
- Immune response (innate and adaptive),
- Structure, functions, diversity and genetics of antibodies,
- Structure, functions, diversity and genetics of MHC,
- Immunological techniques.
During the tutorials, the students apply these notions by analysing documents (alone or in groups): experimental results or medical cases.
At the end of this course, each group of students will analyze a scientific paper and present it to the class.
Objectifs
At the end of this course, you will be able to :
- Describe the structure of immune organs, cells and molecules from different classes: Immunoglobulins, TCR, MHC (I and II), CD4, CD8,
- Describe the innate (inflammation, complement) and adaptive (humoral and cell mediated) immune response,
- Calculate the diversity of antobodies or MHC molecules produced by an individual,
- Interpret simple experimental results observed about the immune system,
- Translate experimental results by a scheme at molecular level,
- Analyse results from following techniques: ELISA, Western Blot, Flow cytometry (FACS), Immuno-precipitation, Immuno-histochemistry,
- Choose the correct technique depending on the context.
