Description
The lectures will contain an introduction to materials : ceramics, metals, polymers and composites, including some general knowledge, a description of elaboration methods, their (micro)structure, their properties, and some examples of applications.
The students will use the concepts introduced in this course to perform a literature survey and write a bibliographic report about a material of their choice.
Objectifs
At the end of this course, you will be able to :
- Describe the properties of materials (microstructure, atomic structure),
- Obtain useful information form the scientific literatures about materials (ISO recommendation, periodicals, reference books…),
- Use their understanding of the properties of materials to rationally choose a material for an application.

Pré-requis obligatoires
Basic Knowledge of solid state chemistry and crystal structures.
Contrôle des connaissances
First session : 100% written final exam.
Second session : 100% oral final exam.
