Description
This course introduces X-Ray diffraction as a method for the determination of crystal structures. Through lectures and tutorials, it covers Bragg’s Law, the use of the reciprocal space and the structure factor to interpret XRD patterns. A short presentation of experimental set-ups is also included.
Objectifs
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe matter-radiation interactions
- Explain scattering and diffraction mechanisms
- Define Bragg’s Law
- Define the reciprocal space and calculate its lattice parameters
- Calculate diffraction angles using Bragg’s law and the reciprocal space
- Define and calculate the structure factor for a crystalline compound
- Model and/or interpret diffraction patterns using Bragg’s law and structure factor
