Description
This course focuses in the first part of the semester with the study of the structure of a research paper and oral presentation skills with a view to preparing students for the speciality oral and written deliverables.
Course topics Semester 2
- How to write a protocol
- The structure of an article/a poster
- Writing an introduction and an abstract/internship report
- Oral presentation techniques/Phonetics/Signposting
- Ted talk structure
Objectifs
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Evaluate a procedure or protocol to determine its validity.
- Write an effective lab protocol/set of instructions
- Identify the elements of a science paper (abstract, introduction…)
- Determine the criteria for effective scientific presentations or posters.
- Design scientific presentations or posters
- Present a research poster or scientific
- Develop the ability to identify and produce English key sounds as well as its basic rhythm, stress and intonation patterns within the context of an oral presentation.
- Explore and test various English certification exams
Specific Learning outcomes :
Physics path “UE Projet Expérimental”
- Present a research protocol demonstrating a set of Physics Laws
- Design a protocol for the 1st-year students
Chemistry path “UE Projet Expérimental”
- Present a research poster on a designated scientific issue
- Write a paper/report/poster
Biology path “UE Travaux de Recherche Encadrés”
- Write the introduction and conclusion of the final report in English
- Present their conclusions orally in English

Physics/Chemistry: 30 % of the final grade of the course “Projet Expérimental”
Computer Science : 2 ECTS and 30% of the UE “Programmation des systèmes distribués”
Biology :30 % of the final grade of the course “UE TRE”
The module comprises 3 types of assessments:
- An ongoing assessment based on participation and completion of online work (30%)
- A mid-term evaluation assessing the course topics (30%)
- A Final term evaluation consisting in an oral presentation (40%)
